Global Forum on Higher Education 2025: Renewing Democracy Through Education

Charles University hosted the prestigious "Global Forum on Higher Education 2025" organized by the Council of Europe. The event welcomed over 140 delegates representing higher education institutions, public authorities, and civil society organizations from across Europe and beyond. This year’s central theme was "Renewal of the Democratic and Civic Mission of Higher Education."

Keynote speakers emphasized the growing responsibility of universities to combat polarization, misinformation, and political disengagement. The forum focused on how higher education institutions can serve as catalysts for democratic values and civic responsibility through curriculum innovation, community engagement, and inclusive governance. Recommendations and action points will feed into the Council of Europe's higher education strategy for 2030
