Greece is undertaking significant reforms in its education sector under the leadership of Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis. Key initiatives include the appointment of 10,000 permanent teachers, the installation of interactive whiteboards in classrooms, and the introduction of digital tutoring systems. Additionally, the government has launched the "Marietta Giannakou" program, a €350 million investment aimed at upgrading school infrastructure across the country.
In higher education, reforms are set to triple university admissions by allowing institutions to accept up to 30% of their students through alternative routes, up from the current 12%. This policy aims to address challenges such as unfilled seats due to stricter entrance requirements and to provide more opportunities for students
Furthermore, the government plans to introduce the International Baccalaureate (IB) program in public model schools starting September 2026, enhancing the global competitiveness of Greek education.
