A recent report by Bridge EU and eight NGOs has revealed that over €1 billion in EU funds have been allocated to projects that contribute to the discrimination and segregation of marginalized groups, including Roma communities, disabled children, and asylum seekers. The analysis of 63 projects across six EU countries uncovered issues such as segregated housing for Roma, residential institutions for disabled children, and remote, substandard asylum centers.
The report criticizes both EU institutions and national governments for systemic failures in understanding and implementing fundamental human rights. Activists are calling for more inclusive planning in the upcoming EU budget cycle to ensure that funds support integration and social inclusion rather than perpetuate marginalization.
